We take a whole approach to treatment and usually prescribe an internal liquid alongside an external cream. The internal liquid might include herbs to help with infection, allergy, digestive, stress or circulatory factors as well as support for overall immunity. Greenfield Herbal Medicine & Clinics prescribe only the highest quality herbal remedies from UK suppliers. Wherever possible, we source those made from fresh, organic plants, grown to biodynamic standards from sustainable sources (99% of our current dispensary stock is organic). We only use pure whole-plant herbal medicines and none of our preparations contain any animal products.

Most of the 170 herbs we use are grown in the UK, Europe and North America (some we grow ourselves here in West Lothian).  We always aim to use indigenous herbs before looking to those from further a-field, but keep a worldwide stock to use as necessary in our prescriptions.

Whole-plant herbal medicines have been used by traditional herbalists for centuries. These medicines contain all of the natural constituents found in the whole plant, or in part of the whole plant e.g. whole root, whole leaves, etc.. We use these because we consider all of these natural constituents to be important, not least in the way they act as important buffers to safeguard against unwanted side-effects.

Not all ‘herbal medicines’ on the market today are based on whole plants. Instead they can be industrially produced, standardised or concentrated plant extracts. These extracts are based only on the most effective constituents of the plant (usually only one) and are not a true reflection of the whole natural healing power of the plant with its balance of constituents in their unmodified  state as they appear in nature.
