More common than you might think, depression, anxiety, worry, fear, sleeplessness, panic attacks and a general feeling of not coping, are all conditions we see regularly at GHC.

Herbal remedies such as oats, lemon balm and motherwort have traditionally been used to provide a calming yet uplifting effect.  We might prescribe a tonic including herbs such as these to help support mind and body through life’s difficult patches.

Every patient we see at our clinics is given an individually tailored prescription of herbs specific to their particular needs. Each prescription contains several herbs which, together, aim to treat the cause of illness, support the different affected areas of the body, bolster the body’s own defence mechanisms if appropriate and provide symptomatic relief where required.

Herbs can be given in various forms. We usually prescribe a liquid tincture (which looks and tastes much like ‘a cough bottle’), but also give dried herbs for making teas, tablets, capsules and syrups, as well as creams, lotions and ointments for external use.

Dosage varies depending on the individual’s age, body weight and overall state of health. Children are treated by drop dosage and most will happily take their drops in a small cup of fruit juice. Breast-feeding babies are treated via mum’s milk (i.e. mum takes the medicine).

Please note we adhere to a strict code of ethics and are only able to provide tailored prescriptions to patients attending our clinics for a face-to-face consultation. We do not carry out consultations on the internet or telephone, although general enquiries are welcome.

Safety
When prescribed by a qualified medical herbalist, traditional herbal medicine is safe and can be taken alongside conventional prescribed drugs. There are several known drug-herb interactions and a number of conditions in which certain herbs should not be taken. It is therefore unwise to self medicate with herbs bought ‘over-the-counter’ if you are taking any prescribed medication or have been diagnosed with any medical condition. If in doubt, always consult a qualified medical herbalist. At Greenfield Herbal Clinics we have the training to prescribe safely. You do not need a referral from your doctor to make an appointment.
